Help with Nuri's Nest, and how to reach a human.

Getting started

How do I get into the parent area?

Tap the person button in the top corner of the nest map, then answer the times-table question. It is there so a two-year-old cannot wander into the settings, not to keep you out — the answer is deliberately easy for an adult.

How do I change the languages?

Parent area → Settings → Languages. You choose the language spoken at home and the language being learned, and you can change either at any time.

Progress is kept separately for every language, so switching to another language and back never muddles what has been learned.

Can more than one child use it?

Yes — up to four. Parent area → Child & privacy → Add another child. Each child picks their own animal, which is how a child who cannot read finds their own profile.

Sound and voices

Some languages sound better than others. Why?

While the recordings are being made, words are spoken by your device's own built-in voice. Those voices differ in quality from language to language, and some need to be downloaded before they sound their best.

On iOS you can add better voices in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices. Recorded human audio will replace this entirely in a future update.

Kazakh is silent. Is it broken?

No — iOS does not ship a Kazakh voice, so there is nothing for the app to fall back on while the recordings are being prepared. Pictures, written words and progress all work; only the spoken audio is missing. This is the language we are recording first.

There is no sound at all.
  • Check the device is not in silent mode, and that the volume is up.
  • Check a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode is not muting the device.
  • Close the app fully and reopen it.
  • Sound effects can be turned off separately in the parent area — the teaching voice always plays, so if you hear words but no pops and chimes, that setting is simply off.

Time and habits

How do the daily goal and daily limit differ?

The goal is something to reach: when it is met, a rainbow appears over the nest. The limit is a stop: once it is reached, the nest goes to sleep until tomorrow.

A lesson already in progress always finishes — the app never stops a child mid-question. You can always grant ten more minutes from the parent area.

Why does the app get darker in the evening?

For the 90 minutes before the bedtime you set, the sky dims and the pace calms, so the app winds down rather than winding a child up. You can move or change the bedtime in Parent area → Settings → Time and routine.

Where are the streaks and scores?

There are none on the child's side, on purpose. At this age a number is either meaningless or a way to feel you have done badly, and a streak is something to lose. Days visited are counted for you in the parent area, and never shown to the child.

Privacy and data

What do you collect about my child?

Nothing. The app makes no network requests at all — there is no account, no analytics, no adverts and no tracking. Everything your child does stays in the app's private storage on your device. The Privacy Policy sets this out in full.

How do I delete everything?

Either way works, and both are immediate:

  • Parent area → Child & privacy → "Delete all data on this device", or "Reset this child's progress" for one child only.
  • Delete the app from your device, which removes everything it stored.

Since nothing is ever sent to us, there is nothing held on our side for you to ask us to erase.

Does it use the microphone?

No. One activity invites a child to say a word aloud after Nuri, but nothing is recorded, listened to, or judged — the app simply waits, then carries on. The app asks for no microphone, camera, photo, location or notification permissions at all.

Other

Does it work offline?

Completely. Every picture and sound is bundled with the app, so a child on a plane or in a car gets exactly the same app as at home.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad. It works in either orientation, and the layout adapts to the screen — an iPad gives the artwork more room, which younger children tend to prefer.

Can I show the written words?

Yes. Parent area → Settings → Lessons → "Show written words". They are off the child's critical path either way: the app is designed so that a child who cannot read loses nothing, and the words are there for you and for early readers. Sound always plays regardless.
